Plan 1 COLA Update
The Senate Ways & Means Committee held a hearing yesterday and heard testimony on SB 5400 (a 3% COLA for PERS 1 & TRS 1 retirees with a cap of $62.50 per month). RPEC Vice-President Nancy Heley provided testimony on behalf of RPEC members and PERS retirees.
The cutoff for this bill to move from committee is this coming Tuesday, February 11th. We need to encourage Senate members of the Ways & Means Committee to move forward with this bill and allow a vote from the Senate floor.
ACTION: Please call your Senators that are members of the Senate Ways & Means Committee listed below and ask them to support SB 5400, a much needed 3% increase for Plan 1 retirees and to move it from committee to a floor vote in the Senate. Their legislative district and office number is listed next to their name.

2020 Legislative Day
The 2020 RPEC/WEA-Retired Joint Legislative Day held on Monday February 3rd, was a huge success in both member attendance and the number of face-to-face meetings with legislators at the Capitol. We also had a great turnout by both members and legislators at our reception that same evening. The reception is an informal setting for legislators and members to discuss issues and share stories without the pressures of the 15 minute meeting time allocation during the day at the Capitol.
We were joined again this year by members of the Washington Education Association – Retired and made a strong representation with over 200 retirees at the Capitol Building and at Legislators’ offices.
