President Biden Signs Social Security Fairness Act into Law

On January 5th, President Joe Biden signed the Social Security Fairness Act, H.R. 82, into law. This bipartisan supported legislation provides a boost in benefits for approximately 3 million retired teachers, firefighters, policeman and other public sector workers who also receive pension income.

The Social Security Fairness Act repeals two provisions – the Windfall Elimination Provision (WEP) and the Government Pension Offset (GPO) that have been in place for more than 40 years.
